Set Queue element to NULL state

Hello,
Set the state of the queue element to NULL hangs sometimes, my pipeline
looks like:

  (httpsoupsrc ! queue ! hlsdemux ! decodebin ! videoconvert )
            ! compositor ! autovideosink ,

I want to switch another hls stream to the compositor, so I  try to pause
elements in the brackets and set state to NULL, but the call on the queue
element never return sometimes, whats the right approach to deal with it,
please help  thank you
