alsasink drift-tolerance vs alignment-threshold

I have read the alsasink documentation here:

but it is not at all clear to me what the difference is between the
properties of drift-tolerance and alignment-threshold.

 

Can someone clear this up and give a brief explanation about how these
parameters are related to the consumption rate of an endpoint (e.g. DAC) and
the pipeline clock (which might get its clock from the system)?
