How to use fstab-sync?

Hi,

I want HAL to update my /etc/fstab whenever I pluggin an usbstick, digital 
camera,... 
I saw that HAL installed a fstab-sync file in my /usr/sbin directory, however 
I haven't a clue how to use it. Is there any documentation available on how 
to use it or can someone explain?
