Is fstab-sync in newest cvs broken?

Ah, here's the bug. 

Callouts now need to have the .hal extension. I think I wrote that in a
ChangeLog entry but there haven't been a release since. If you pass --
enable-fstab-sync then a 50-fstab-sync.hal symlink will indeed be
installed on make install.
