Ok, now I'm thinking about implementing the addon for my Vaio
laptop. Humm, a hal-friendly acpid daemon comes first to my
mind. Should someone design generic properties that the acpid
can populate or ACPI is considered abstract enough to be
reflected directly in the HAL tree? I think the former. So IIRC
you were talking about a lid object on the computer, battery,
etc. What about the Fn keys on laptops for example? There are
applications out there (acme?) that handle them for various
builds of laptops. Maybe we can have callouts to turn lcd
on/off, eject cdrom, suspend, etc, and each build specific laptop
addon would call them? Or should it just give back raw Fn key
data like an input device? Humm, don't know. Enough of thinking
loadly :).
