To be totally honest, I'm not sure whether this patch is useful or
whether it would be considered bloat. I guess one thing we can all
agree on, and as Kay elequintly put it in another thread, is that we
want to be able to release HAL within a reasonable timeframe, e.g.
reach a version 1.0 for Linux within 6-12 months. So, I'm a bit
reluctant to merge this patch.
