problem with hal-0.4.7

Greetings,

I'm running Mandrake 10.2 (aka 2005LE) with hal-0.4.7 and
kernel-2.6.11-2mdk.  Attempts to mount my USB hard drive are failing
and the last entry is /var/log/messages is:

Apr 19 18:43:17 osage hald[4729]: Timed out waiting for hotplug event 1183. Rebasing to 1183

I've made a quick attempt to build hal-0.5.0, but library versions are insufficient.

Below are the relevant log messages and some lsusb output.  

Have you any thoughts on what's lacking?  If there's any more info I
can supply, please let me know.
