FWIW, I did:

[root at hughsie ~]# dd if=/dev/hda1 bs=512 count=10240 | hexdump -C | grep
"W.I.N.X.P"
002a9610  f0 ff ff ff 57 00 49 00  4e 00 58 00 50 00 00 00 |....W.I.N.X.P...| 
10240+0 records in
10240+0 records out
