Status of HEAD

It get the distinct impression that HEAD isn't quite up to par with the 
stable branch. The bus and class handlers seem to have been scrapped. 
And the devices found aren't quite the same as in the stable version.
Does any documentation about the changes exist? Or will I have a 
delightful afternoon of digging through the new code? =)
