gnome-volume-manager, NetworkManager, gnome-VFS, etc.  You can get the
sources from gnome-cvs (http://cvs.gnome.org/) or their ftp server
(ftp://ftp.gnome.org/Public/GNOME/sources/)

gnome-volume-manager is the easiest to read by far since most of the
code is dedicated to communicating with HAL.
