Printer Ink levels and capabilities

Hello all,

Are printer ink levels and capabilities a useful source of information for
HAL to have? thinking about it Linux has bad support for printer information
outside of specialised applications. for some printers such as epson this
information is available through special tools. other printers are not so
lucky.

If the information could somehow be provided, would it make sense for HAL to
be the place to store it?
