Link is up / Link is down HAL signals

Hello,
if I disconnect my network cable, I can immediately see this in dmesg:
b44: eth0: Link is down.

And if I connect cable again, I can see this:
b44: eth0: Link is up at 100 Mbps, full duplex.

But why there isn't some HAL signal while connecting and disconnecting network
cable? There is EjectPressed signal while pressing eject button on CD/DVD and
there should be also similar signals for connecting/disconnecting network
cable, something like LinkUp and LinkDown.

I have also tried lshal and there is net.interface_up key, but it is
always 'true', it doesn't matter if network cable is connected or not.

This would be great feature, because one can for example catch these signals
in ivman and run /etc/rc.d/network start/stop (or some other programs)
automatically.

Thanks,
Michal Krenek (Mikos)
