Locking or not locking (CD drives)?

The meaning of "locking" a drive is to prevent other apps from using
it / enforcing policy. For example nautilus-cd-burner does on optical
drives that to prevent g-v-m from mounting an RW disc the user inserts
with an intention to clear it and then burn data to it. It would, btw,
be nice if Totem refused to playback the disc if e.g. if the enclosing
drive is locked [1]. 

So I don't think Totem should lock the drive, no. Does that make sense?

[1] : only makes sense if Totem automatically starts playing it once you
insert it but I'm not sure that feature is in yet, no?
