Hm, I never tried to run a HAL git HEAD version on a SUSE 10.0 (it's maybe not 
the best idea ... I never tried more than the shipped 0.5.4 there, the steps 
since this HAL version are significant). 

From where is the udev version? Which configure options did you use?

Btw. the output of strace would be more usefull with this option: -s 1024.
