I've said many times that HAL is a bad name. I mostly blame Havoc since 
he wrote the seminal "Making Hardware Just Work" paper that started this 
effort.

I'm not sure it's useful to make blanket statements like this, 
especially from you, being an outsider in the HAL / Project Utopia 
community and all. (at least for me, haven't seen your name anywhere, 
sorry).

Doug, perhaps you can qualify some of your statements and tell us a bit 
of where you're coming from, what you've been working on and so forth.
