and I also can't confirm the volumeup/down and mute keys, the produce no 
unknown scancodes (booted with init=/bin/bash and kernel 2.6.22.5).

Could you may attach the output of lshal for the root device: 
/org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/computer ?
