I use your config for acers.

Everything should be ok, because the config is right:
fox at powerfox:/usr/share/hal/fdi/information/10freedesktop$ lshal | grep
system.hardware
  system.hardware.product = 'Aspire 7110'  (string)
  system.hardware.serial = '*****************'  (string)
  system.hardware.uuid =   '*****************'  (string)
  system.hardware.vendor = 'Acer'  (string)
  system.hardware.version = '0100'  (string)

I restarted my hal and got nothing.
lshal | grep keymap gives nothing.
I think, that hal is not used for keymapping (maybe hotkeysetup blocks it?)
dmesg:
[ 1532.204000] atkbd.c: Unknown key pressed (translated set 2, code 0xd8 on
isa0060/serio0).
[ 1532.204000] atkbd.c: Use 'setkeycodes e058 <keycode>' to make it known.
