hal doesn't create device icons as memory chips or usb key inserted

when i plug in usb keys or SD/MMC cards, i get device icons in media:/ in konqueror.

but since I installed gparted along with its dependency libs hal doesn't show anymore any icons in media:/

I ran hald as follows:
/usr/sbin/hald --daemon=no | tee /tmp/hal.log
to get the log into /tmp/hal.log.
I also tried with --verbose=yes, but the output was too huge. If needed i will put here the ouput.
