It solve it for all affected machines and not only for one particular brand of
laptop. You can't ever solve it for 'any other input ever'. Especially not
with HAL.

It's a question of performance (and I remember that there were many ppl which
made huge efforts to speed up HAL some milliseconds) and reliable
information.
Btw. it's not that we have hundreds of reports every week or month about new
keymaps for these vendors.
