My experience differs (again):
Current case:
- From X, many machines work without any quirk
- Since kernels >= 2.6.25, i get an increasing number of reports that quirks
actually break formerly working suspends. One example is the MacBook1,1, which
formerly worked with vbestate_restore and now does not allow any quirk.

Well, it is pure guesswork if it helps more machines or breaks more machines.
It will make resume much slower, that's sure.
