[PATCH 0/8] Optimization patches, tested and fixed up

Danny has been very generously testing out the optimization patches I 
posted a while back [1]. He found one problem with uniquely naming udis 
when processing events in parallel. This patch series has been updated 
to apply to current master and includes a patch fixing this issue. Danny 
has tested this patch series on his test systems and there doesn't 
appear to be any remaining issues.

Comments and more testing before the release would be appreciated!
