lirc supports the use of a receiver with a non-bundled remote control,
such as a generic replacement remote control. So not only is it the
receiver that's actually being plugged in, but there's really no
guarantee that that receiver is using any particular remote control.

Of course, lirc should default to expecting the bundled remote control
for the receiver.
