Outstanding! :-)  I'm happy to see the quirks stuff integrated...

In the functions file, you mention modularizing the service
stop/restart bits, and I *think* that's about the only thing left
causing a problem for us.  Did you have any ideas in mind on how you
want to implement that?  Maybe test for /etc/$distro-{release,version}
as appropriate and go from there?  Also, I'm not sure if there's a
good way to address this, or if it's even relevant for the cases where
it applies, but some of our init scripts don't contain 'status' checks
and/or don't return "running" when they do...
