Then you may want to try 'evtest /dev/input/eventX' (replace X with the input
device which is responsible for the lid, your log says it's event3). You
should get there e.g. such an output:
----------------------------------------
evtest /dev/input/event5
Input driver version is 1.0.0
Input device ID: bus 0x19 vendor 0x0 product 0x5 version 0x0
Input device name: "Lid Switch"
Supported events:
  Event type 0 (Sync)
  Event type 5 (?)
    Event code 0 (?)
Testing ... (interrupt to exit)
Event: time 1225126225.801134, type 5 (?), code 0 (?), value 1
Event: time 1225126225.801147, -------------- Report Sync ------------
Event: time 1225126226.554307, type 5 (?), code 0 (?), value 0
Event: time 1225126226.554320, -------------- Report Sync ------------
----------------------------------------

If there is no event if you close the lid, then report it to your distribution
or the kernel ML.
