Find all attached keyboars and mice

How do I go about finding all keyboards and mice that are attached to a 
system?

I've been fishing about in /sys and udev but can't find any clean way to 
figure out what is attached.

I'm not talking about hotplugging; I want to be able to find what is 
attached where at some arbitrary time after boot.

There has to be a simple way to do this but I'll be d*mned if I can find it.

What am I missing?
