hal-0.5.13 requires blkid >= 1.43.

Thanks, my problem was caused by using an old recipe in openembedded
"bitbake gpe-image"
which uses e2fsprogs for blkid.
The recommended recipe is
"bitbake "x11-gpe-image" which uses the u-l-ng.
