Hi  Richard:

Yes it's available in the new kernel interface, but this is a stopgap
solution if you aren't using the newer kernel module.  So if you are on
a distro that is using the newer kernels, you can build your hal without
smbios support and get away with it.  If you are on a distro with older
kernels, and an old libsmbios, you can rely on the old libsmbios stuff
in HAL.  If you are on a distro with older kernels, a newer libsmbios,
then you can use this.
