ambient light sensor for dell latitude

Hello I own a dell latitude E6400. It has an ambient light sensor
(A-L-S)  built in, which is available through the smbios API (which is
common to all dell laptops having a A-L-S).
I can control it using a simple C binary build on top of the smbios
API. With it you can enable and disable it. Is it possible to
integrate it with hal and then possibly with gnome-power-manager?
