Thanks.  From reading the headers themselves, my understanding was that
Availability.h is for system headers to include only, and not to be used by
client code.  So, what would a ifdef block look like?  IIUC, I have to figure
out first whether Availability.h itself can be included...  Also, does iOS
define __APPLE__ also?

I think I'll wait till someone who has a iOS SDK set up to send me a patch.
