[HarfBuzz] in ex-sdl-harfbuzz-freetype.c

hi,
i was trying to link the example program statically,but i am unable to get 
past  a problem.

in the following line program execution stops,
screen = SDL_SetVideoMode(width,height,bpp,videoFlags);

strace a.out
ioctl(4, VT_ACTIVATE, 0x4)              = 0
ioctl(4, VT_WAITACTIVE
the execution stops in the above line.please help me to get through it.
