subtest to validate async flips with atomic commit
v2: refactor repeated code to function (Karthik).
explicitly set atomic_path to false in legacy tests (Karthik).
v3: fix test_crc and test_invalid subtests.
v4: Add note for invalid_test for not using perform_flip (Karthik).
