It is not certain if it is the tex-update-blit itself that is failing. Running
the same test without -fbo option works. And that option doesn't affect the
blit in question in anyway.

Also adding a glClear() (against the main fbo) just after the tex-blit makes
the
error go a way just as in IVB case.
