Just to confirm and for completeness:

Last week, I have tried the patch with an Ubuntu 13.04 beta, with the Default
Ubuntu kernel, on an Acer Revo RL80 that came with Windows 8, which I bought as
a Linux HTPC.

The patch finally and successfully fixed the boot problems.  At last! :-)
