Tried this on top of 3.11-rc4 (needed to hack back in the DRM_DEBUG_KMS() call
that seems to have gone from there, before this patch applied)

After that I tried a reboot but got a very dark screen, tried again and got a
slightly less dark screen but still corrupt in the same way as before, so no
progress from my perspective I'm afraid.

Want me to try it on top of a different version (3.10.x didn't seem to give me
any backlight problems last time I tried it)
