At least one of these bugs is not about backlight alone -- Kirill Shutemov
asked to shine some external light on the panel to see whether there's image at
all and there was none in my case (the same comment 43 linking to my bugreport
done at his request: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=67950). 
Seems a bpp issue indeed.
