And of course the machine (a ivb i3 nuc) I am using has no wired ethernet and
the usbnet is so flaky to prevent using netconsole to see if there is a panic.
However, manual short-circuiting of the code initially lead me to suspect that
the hard hang is caused by touching VGA IO. However, having worked around those
hangs, my machine still hangs upon a cold boot.
