I am using i3wm and sometimes I got some problems with gpu. I am using
=x11-drivers/xf86-video-intel-2.99.905-r1, but earlier I was using 2.99.906 and
I got artifacts, and gpu hung was more often. If I turned off tearfree
function, the problem didn't occurred I think.

I have:
kernel 3.13.0-rc4,
i5 2500k with hd 3000
x11-drivers/xf86-video-intel-2.99.905-r1
don't know if this is relevant since i3wm is not using mesa, but: OpenGL
version string: 3.0 Mesa 10.1.0-devel (git-f9cfe5c)
