Testing a few things this seems to be a graphics driver problem. If I am
software rendering and have memory overcommit set to 2 then the kernel says no
and chrome gives the 'Aw snap!' window.

I wonder if its allocation a bazillion GEM objects and these are not being
properly accounted or something.
