I have tested the latest patch applied against kernel 3.7.4 (Gentoo, x86,
Lenovo X301). Kernel seems to be stable, and I cannot reproduce the problem.
Thank you very much for squashing this very old and ugly bug! 

Is it possible to include the patch into mainstream kernel?
