I apologize for the correspondence gap. Here is the output:

jay at jay-debian:~$ cat /sys/kernel/debug/dri/0/i915_opregion | od -t x1
cat: /sys/kernel/debug/dri/0/i915_opregion: No such file or directory
0000000

I will now test the patch (attachment 66926), and if this does not solve the
problem I'll try the booting with the i915.invert_brightness=1 parameter...
