I'm reopening this, as I'm still seeing link train fail, and cannot use both
monitors at 2048x1152 with IVB yet. I'm seeing this with the kernel from
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.8-rc2-raring/ which appears to
include your changes from the intel-fixes branch, per the CHANGES file in that
directory.

I can however, now use the second screen at 1360x768 (1366x768 or higher
fails), even with the primary screen at 2048x1152, now. Of course, there are
still link train failure messages in dmesg:
