Afaik the intel driver doesn't do any magic on lid close - that's done by your
desktop enviroment I think. But if the ACPI lid stuff doesn't work correctly
(you could check the sysfs files I think or in procfs through ssh whether it
works). If that doesn't work you need to file an ACPI bug. For the desktop
integration either write your own script or yell at the people doing your DE
;-)
