Well, we do shut down the backlight when disabling the LVDS output, at least
the intel backlight. To confirm that theory, can you please list all the
backlight controllers you have in /sys/class/backlight and which ones are
affecting your screen brightness? Please check both when the intel and when the
radeon gpu is enabled with the mux.
