I did boot it, and it did work.  Sorry, I should have mentioned that. 
Unfortunately, I did not take the time to look at the pre-installed Linux
distro before replacing it.  It may have been using one of the VESA drivers,
but I'm really not sure.  I don't know that I can recover the original distro,
but I can try to get a fresh copy from Acer if that would be helpful.
