It just happened again:

[3146200.700] (II) intel(0): switch to mode 2560x1440 at 60.0 on pipe 0 using DP2,
position (0, 0), rotation normal
[3146201.213] setversion 1.4 failed
This is with commit abf1a16914d993cc150005879375d4bb17fdccf3.
New full Xorg.0.log attached.
