Today I submitted "drm/i915: disable VGA mem when reenabling the power well":

This fixes the case where the power well is *enabled* when we do the unbind.
This won't fix the problem if you just have an eDP panel enabled.

The case where the power well is *disabled* when we do the unbind will require
more patches.
