Presumably on some machines we can't light up the edp panel if the BIOS hasn't
done that before. I assume booting with the external display connected makes
BIOS not light up the panel. OTOH if the BIOS has enabled the panel, we can
disable/enable it any number of times. That's the assumption anyway.
