The Xorg.0.log shows the same pattern. The batches gradually get larger and
larger as each takes longer to render, eventually reaching the point where we
are stuck for long periods of time without and update to the scanout. Weird.
Weirder that it is the extra debugging that triggers this behaviour, usually it
has the opposite effect of making batches shorter (as it takes longer for the
ddx to construct a batch giving the GPU more time to execute each and so we
send shorter batches to try and keep the GPU busy). I'll see if I can piece
together the cause and see if that suggests an improvement I can ask you test.
