It doesn't even always render that slowly, a few times when I tried to get that
f0565852 log it would actually do so fluently, ie. without any freezing.

No need to apologize for assuming KDE :) It's xmonad with compton-git as
compositor (set to provide transparency and do fade in/out with a 5ms stepping,
if that's of any relevance).
