I'll take another pass at seeing if I can reproduce the slow rendering. You did
lead me to find a real issue with TearFree, but it appears to have been a
separate issue entirely. :(

Please do file a bug report. (When in doubt, always file a new bug report.) Try
to give the simplest (but as detailed as possible) steps to reproduce and
include an Xorg.0.log so that I can check hw and sw versions later.
